Band Lettering Criteria

Tyler Legacy Band Letter Jacket Requirements

To earn a band letter jacket, you must accumulate 50 points.  If you believe you have earned your jacket with points earned from last year, please turn in your form to a band director.

Letter-Jacket-Worksheet

10 Points per year of band participation. (5 points per semester)

  • One complete year of successful participation in both concert and marching band.

(If a student becomes ineligible and cannot participate in UIL marching and/or UIL Concert & Sight-reading Contest, the student will forfeit the 5 points allotted for that particular semester.)

 

15 Points each for the selection and performance with the following All Region organizations.

  • TMEA 9th grade All Region Band
  • TMEA All Region Band
  • TMEA All Region Orchestra
  • TMEA All Region Jazz Band
  • TMEA Area Band audition.

 

50 points for selection in the Texas All State Band.

 

10 Points Students may earn multiple points in this category.

  • Performance of a Class ONE solo at the UIL Solo Contest earning a Superior (1st Division) rating
  • Performance at the UIL STATE Solo Contest and earning a Superior or Excellent (1st or 2nd Division) rating.
  • Performance at the UIL State Ensemble contest and earning a Superior or Excellent (1st or 2nd Division) rating.

 

5 Points Students may earn multiple points in this category.

  • Performance of a Class TWO solo at the UIL Solo Contest earning a Superior (1st Division) rating
  • Performance of a Class One or Two ensembles at the ensemble contest and earning a Superior (First Division) rating
  • Recognition points for Student Leaders, Loading Crew, or Quartermasters.

 

Color Guard Letter Jacket Requirements

A color guard member needs to accumulate 40 points to earn a letter jacket.  If you think you have earned your jacket with points earned from last year, please turn in your form to a band director.

5 Points Participate in all scheduled fall guard performances.

5 Points Participate in all scheduled winter guard performances.

10 Points Students may earn multiple points in this category

  • Performance of a solo at a designated Solo Contest earning a Superior (1st Division) rating
  • Performance of a solo at the “All Star” solo contest.
  • Score of 95 or above at the “All Star” solo contest.
